Hotel Ranga Icelandic Luxury At Its Best

I drove past Hotel Ranga on the way to Vik and i was impressed with the location. That made me even more eager to get back and stay for the night. Once i finished my afternoon of sightseeing i headed back through some crazy weather, which is normal in Iceland. You seem to experience every season at least 4 times a day. I liked the fact that mother nature ruled Iceland. Being from Brisbane, Australia our weather is pretty boring compared to Iceland. As i looked through the sleet on my windscreen there it was, Hotel Ranga Icelandic Luxury at its best, just calling my name.

As soon as i parked my 4wd and approached the automatic front doors i knew Hotel Ranga was going to be awesome. There was wood panelling, stuffed polar bears and beautiful artwork. I found the reception staff to be very helpful and cheery. They let me know that i was entitled to a welcome glass of wine or a beer at the bar so i thought i’d settle in my room first then hit the bar.

Everything felt solid from the brass door handles to the old school lock and key for my room. I was a keen woodworker at highschool so i really appreciated the quality of Hotel Ranga. I know this sounds silly but you could feel the carpenters love and passion for the job in the hallways and even when you opened a door. Everything felt heavy and just beautifully handcrafted. You don’t feel that very often in building these days.

Strangely enough i didn’t take too many photos from the outside. I think i was so overwhelmed with the beauty that was on the inside. When i walked down the hallway to my room i was unaware i was staying in a Junior Suite which had an Australian Theme. As i opened the door my jaw dropped and heart started racing! I had never stayed in a room like this before. It was clear that Hotel Ranga deserved its 4 star luxury rating.

I honestly had a tear in my eye because it was so beautiful. I had been travelling for a few weeks by the time i arrived in Iceland and to see everything Australian really made me feel at home.

There was a 3 piece leather lounge suite and a stunning wooden coffee table. My bed was huge with the softest linen plus there was even a large balcony with uninterrupted views. Hotel Ranga had honestly thought of everything. Even down to the postcard on the desk with a photo of Hotel Ranga on it saying post it anywhere for free.

Since i only had one night at Hotel Ranga i spent it eating, drinking and catching up on my sleep in the king size super comfy bed. The hotel offers a wake up service if the Northern Lights appear but it was cloudy on the night i was there so i had a great nights sleep. In fact i didn’t want to get up the next day and leave the room. I probably should have used the hot tubs but it was raining on the morning i left so i didn’t worry about it.

I would recommend hiring a car if you stay at Hotel Ranga because there’s so many beautiful places to see between Reykjavik and Vik. It’s an easy drive as well, so even if you’re not used to driving in another country the roads aren’t full of traffic. If you’re not comfortable doing the driving there’s lots of tours you can book through Hotel Ranga.

Now the food is amazing and i had 6 courses so i’m going to write a separate blog about that experience. Here’s a tip though, try the Mushroom soup when you stay at Hotel Ranga. It’s out of this world!!

I have to thank Hotel Ranga for their wonderful hospitality and for being part of my unforgettable world trip
