Belgium had always been on my radar but I had no idea just how beautiful the buildings really were until my visit in March. I stayed in Brussels and booked a day trip to Ghent and Bruges which was the best decision I made while in Belgium. If you love Medieval Architecture then you have to visit Bruges and Ghent in Belgium. Both cities are filled with history.

Visiting Brussels is made very easy with fast trains from London which take between 2 – 2.5 hours each way. I booked a return trip with Eurostar for under $100 AUD. The cost of tickets depend on how far out you make your booking and which class you decide upon. Brussels Midi Station is near the central part of town so try and find accommodation nearby to make your trip even easier. I stayed at an AirBnb only 5 minutes away from the train station and a 10 minute walk to the Town Hall.

The city of Brussels was officially founded in 979 and is full of eclectic Gothic, Baroque and Louis XIV style buildings, street art and of course the famous Belgian Waffle.

The Grand Place was named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1998.

Ghents history began in the year 630.  There is nowhere else can find so much history per square metre than in the historical heart of Ghent!
